The Normal Heart

  • Woodlawn Pointe 702 Donaldson Avenue San Antonio, TX, 78201 United States (map)

La Bête Productions brings one of the most defining works of queer theatre to the San Antonio stage this December with The Normal Heart, Larry Kramer’s landmark drama about the early days of the HIV/AIDS crisis. Presented in partnership with Fiesta Youth and Living Positive San Antonio, this production invites audiences to experience a story that helped spark a national movement.

Set in early-1980s New York, the play follows a community fighting to be seen during a health emergency that too many chose to ignore. It’s a raw, urgent portrait of activism, love, grief, and the relentless push for accountability — themes that continue to echo today. The cast and creative team have spent weeks shaping a production that honors the history while connecting deeply with the present moment.

If you’ve never seen The Normal Heart, this is a rare chance to witness a work that changed the cultural conversation around HIV/AIDS. And if you have seen it, this staging offers a renewed intensity and intimacy that makes it just as powerful decades later.
