“Heeeee-lotes, San Antonio”: Hometown Hero Jorgeous Gets Standing O

San Antonio, Texas - Downtown San Antonio saw more than lip syncs, wigs and sequins Wednesday night, as the Werq the World Tour 2025, produced by Voss Events and World of Wonder, sashayed into the Majestic Theatre.

The award show-style event, hosted by Sasha Velour — winner of the ninth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race (RPDR) — with a current touring cast including Jimbo, Onya Nurve, Roxxxy Andrews, Derrick Barry, and Morphine Love Dion, was filled with drag illusions of some of the biggest gay icons like Dolly Parton, Beyoncé, Madonna, Arianna Grande, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and others.

The energy of the room was electric as Sasha Velour flew through across the stage in yards and yards of red fabric, revealing the queens as they emerged, and kicking the show off.

Canadian drag superstar Jimbo, winner of RPDR UK vs. the World and perpetual clown, emulated Dolly Parton, Iggy Azalea and acid tongued Joan Rivers. Current reigning queen Onya Nurve, delivered a powerful medley as Beyoncé, and a heartfelt rendition of “When You Believe” as Whitney Houston and Roxxxy Andrews as Mariah Carey. Andrews not only paid tribute to the elusive chanteuse Mariah all night, but also reminded the crowd of the legacy of drag artistry in San Antonio with a shout out to her drag mother, the legendary Erica Andrews who called the Alamo city home.

Derrick Barry, the preeminent Britney Spears illusionist, honored her idol with performances of classic Britney to her more modern era (knives and spins included). Morphine Dion Love, the BBL queen of Miami, performed as Shakira, with a nod to the Columbian singers Super Bowl Performance.

But the crowd went absolutely wild when hometown hero Jorgeous, runner up of RPDR All Stars season 10, made a special appearance as Ariana Grande. The Majestic was brought to a halt as the crowd gave her a standing ovation after a mashup of Ariana Grande songs with her signature Jorgeous twist, dips and acrobatics.

Many of the queens also used their time at the mic to make statements on the current political climate, against ICE, in favor of human rights — specifically trans rights — and the affirmation of joy, love and to celebrate local drag. “Drag spreads happiness,” Velour said, and lauded the crowd because of their warm welcome with, “Because of you, we felt safe in Texas.” She left the audience with, “No matter what comes, we will survive,” and gave a final toast exclaiming, “To living life like it’s an award show and we all won!”

The Werq the World Tour heads to Grand Prairie next and onto Kansas City, Missouri. For tickets, and to learn more about the tour, visit their website.
